Overview
Gillian is undertaking a Masters of Genetic Counselling at the University of Sydney. As part of this course, she will be undertaking a research project, supervised by Professor Bettina Meiser (Head, Psychosocial Research Group), to analyse communication behaviours in breast cancer genetic counselling, and look at the impact of these behaviours on patient psychosocial outcomes.
Gillian graduated from the University of Auckland in 2001 and obtained a PhD from UNSW in 2005, focused on genetic neurodegenerative diseases. Following this, she worked as a research fellow at the Center for Human Genetic Research, based at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, before returning to Australia to take up a policy position within the Australian Government’s Department of Innovation.
